I design atmospheric gardens that respect the architecture, clients lifestyle, their plant preferences and the amount of maintenance they want to do. Each project is a considered process to achieve results that surpass what’s ‘popular this week’ with a preference for style over fashion, as gardens take time to mature and fashionable becomes unfashionable, quickly.
My designs are quirky, often using recycled materials where appropriate and I happily design around existing elements when they’re worth keeping such as a mature tree or family heirloom. My gardens add considerable value to your property and immense pleasure to your lifestyle. They grow to become a true reflection of the owners rather than a garden that copies others.
Every project starts with a conversation and I’m completely open to discussing and incorporating your ideas into the design. Afterall it’s your garden, not mine.
My creative process is broken down into stages individually quoted before commencing design. You might choose to use all the design stages or just what you need. Sometimes an initial master plan is all that’s required. You might need consultation on making your spaces work better, creating an entertaining space, outdoor kitchen, screening a view that’s changed due to development or refreshing an older garden. Before starting a renovation or new build it’s good practice to consider the landscape design sooner rather than later for a cohesive outcome and often a more cost effective solution.
STAGE 1. BRIEF & DESIGN DIRECTION.
After an initial on-site consultation to establish the brief, I start by drawing a rough series of directions to determine how the space can be used and what the hardscape (all the hard surfaces) could look like.
Site measurements are also taken at this stage if a existing site plan isn’t available.
STAGE 2. HARDSCAPE PLAN.
Once a design direction is approved a accurate hardscape plan suitable for construction is created showing how all the hard elements work together as well as detailed material specifications.
STAGE 3. PLANTSCAPE PLAN.
A planting plan is designed listing all plants, quantities, purchase sizing and their site placement. Where mature plant specimens are being considered these will be sourced for availability.
STAGE 4. CONSTRUCTION QUOTES.
Obtain quotes from suitable landscapers and trades for construction based on the agreed plans. If you have your own preferred contractors I’m also quite happy to brief them too.
STAGE 5. PROJECT MANAGEMENT.
Project manage as required depending on the size of the project and the number of hours required. Some clients prefer to manage themselves which is not a problem.
